We ought to read the Bible in context. Yesterday, I read the following:
“Solomon and the whole assembly went to the high place at Gibeon”
My initial reaction was sadness because "high places" referred to hilltop or elevated sites, including platforms, altars, and sometimes sacred trees, used for public religious rituals, often for Canaanite idol worship dedicated to false gods like Baal and Asherah. God commanded the Israelites to destroy these sites, which became symbols of forbidden, idolatrous practices that led them away from God. My heart sank when I read it, but I quickly rejoiced upon reading further.
“Solomon and the whole assembly went to the high place at Gibeon, for God’s tent of meeting”
Ah, Solomon, the leader of Israel, led his countrymen, all his leaders, all the judges, and all the family heads to where God was.
Now, what if you replaced the name Solomon with your own? For me, it would read: Robert, the leader of Israel, led his countrymen, all his leaders, all the judges, and all the family heads to where God was. That is so exciting. My prayer is that I will lead others to Christ. Is that your prayer?
